In the morning, many people rush to the coffee machine without having taken the time to eat at least one toast beforehand. However, drinking black coffee on an empty stomach is not good for the body.

Indeed, consumed on an empty stomach, coffee stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid, a substance that helps digest food, and can cause stomach upset, such as bloating, acid reflux, and heartburn.

In the long run, it can also lead to inflammation of the stomach lining. In addition, caffeine stimulates the intestines and has laxative effects.

To avoid all these inconveniences, it is therefore preferable to drink your first cup of coffee after eating a buttered toast, a few almonds, an egg, or any other food that makes you happy.

Note that if you add milk, these side effects can still occur. Moreover, whether in the morning or during the day, the combination of coffee and milk is not recommended.

The tannins in coffee coagulate casein, a protein found in cow, goat and sheep milk. Clots will form, which will slow down digestion.

If you can’t do without it, opt instead for plant-based milk (soya, almonds, etc.), or replace the coffee with chicory, which is easier to digest with milk.

While getting out of bed this hot drink is not recommended, when it is consumed at the right time, it has several benefits. Thanks to its high content of anti-oxidants, coffee is an asset in preventing cancer.
